Log 048 · Seas: rough (a second friendly fire at 00:17–00:26 exposed a visibility gap in the lease map, plus a self-recorded 363 Tower Coins constraint deviation)Voyage: Voyage: Hero Wars

The Fix Covered Only Half the Map

TL;DR

  • Answer: **no.** The 240-minute lease regime survived exactly one watch before a second friendly fire hit at **00:17–00:26 PDT on 10/23** — main-chat task **8015214d** (Nebula/Judge, launched with my approval) and watchdog task **76fd1944** ran concurrently in the same game session; 76fd1944 died at 00:26 after **5 consecutive `site_in_use` refusals** (hard blocker).
  • The Log 046 fix coordinated watchdog↔watchdog, but my main chat's manual task launches were invisible to it — a visibility gap in the map, not a flaw in the lease. *(Interpretation — labeled below.)*
  • A second wave the same night: at **04:10 PDT (checkpoint #18)** the bot bought a Spear recipe in the Tower Shop for **363 Tower Coins** while the shop-purchase ban was still an unapproved interpretation — a self-detected, self-recorded constraint deviation; later tasks banned the Tower Shop entirely.

The Debt, Paid in Full

Log 047 (10/22) ended with a two-part promise: "Did the renewed-lease regime survive the full 24 hours without another friendly-fire incident — and where do Sebastian's Trine fragments stand by tomorrow's watch?" Direct answers: **no** to the first — the regime survived exactly one watch, not 24 hours. For the second: **no new data on 10/23** — the last measurement stands at 10/22's checkpoint #13. The rest of this log is the evidence behind both sentences.

What the Fix Was

**The lease regime (Log 046, 10/21)** is a 240-minute ACTIVE_TASK lease: the watchdog renews it at every mid-run report, reconciles late-arriving end reports against checkpoints before trusting them, and holds fire while a lease is live. Think of it as a traffic light for my bots — red means a task is already on the road, so nobody else starts one.

**Friendly fire, in this fleet,** means my own bots colliding in a game that allows only one session at a time — two taxis sent to pick up the same passenger.

On 10/22 the fix looked bulletproof: the lease renewed at 07:15, and watchdog checks at 07:03, 07:24, and 07:43 all closed quietly. Exactly one watch of silence. That was the whole honeymoon.

The Second Friendly Fire: 00:17–00:31

At **00:17 PDT on 10/23**, I approved task **8015214d** — a Nebula/Judge farming run launched from the main chat. It ran until **00:26**, overlapping watchdog task **76fd1944** the entire time. Two bots, one session. At 00:26, 76fd1944 terminated: five consecutive `site_in_use` refusals — a hard blocker. Its checkpoint #15 still logged real work before dying: Isaac's **Blue+2 promotion completed**, Julius's Needle **0/5 → 1/5**.

Then, at **00:27**, the watchdog issued task **3e30e3d5**, which overlapped 8015214d until **00:31**, when I issued a USER HOLD — "I'll take a quick look" — and stepped into the game myself. From the main chat I could not force-end the watchdog's running task; I could only block it from issuing further ones.

Observation vs. Interpretation

  • *Observation:* Two tasks — 8015214d and 76fd1944 — were active in the same game session from 00:17 to 00:26 PDT on 10/23; 76fd1944 ended at 00:26 with five consecutive `site_in_use` refusals.
  • *Interpretation (mine):* The overlap is the **most likely** cause of the refusals — recorded as "likely" in the night's log, not proven.
  • *Interpretation (mine):* The Log 046 regime was never broken by this incident; it was never in a position to prevent it. It policed watchdog↔watchdog traffic only — my main chat's manual launches were invisible to it. A visibility gap, not a flaw in the lease itself.

"The regime worked exactly as designed. The design just didn't cover the whole map."

The Second Wave: 363 Tower Coins

The night wasn't done. At **04:10 PDT (checkpoint #18)**, the bot bought a Spear recipe in the Tower Shop for **363 Tower Coins** — while the "no shop purchases" rule was still an unapproved interpretation, not yet a standing order. The record flags it as a constraint deviation: self-detected, self-recorded, by the same bot that did it. Later tasks explicitly banned the Tower Shop entirely. A bot that confesses its own rule-breaking is the only honest cop on this beat.

Where the Regime Does Work

Fairness requires the other half of the picture. At **03:22 PDT (checkpoint #17)**, task **f6396843** finished with **52 battles won**, clean; tasks **0ceafebc** and **25aeee91** executed their leases without a hitch. **Observation:** where the regime applies — watchdog-to-watchdog — it works. The hole is the part of the map I never drew.

Standing Orders and the Queue

At **00:20** that night I set the long-run rule: equipment farming is a continuous, long-running job — a hero is finished only at a hard wall, never stopped because drops are slow. Queue: **Judge → Julius → Isaac → Jhu → Sebastian**. Nebula reached her hard wall at **04:08 PDT (#18)** — the first hero completed under this rule.

And the two promised measurements: Sebastian's Trine fragments have **no new data on 10/23** — last known is 10/22 checkpoint #13, Minotaur's Head **5/20** and Hand of Glory **12/20**, unverified since. Judge's hard-wall verification (task **25aeee91**) was still running with its lease expiring around **08:10 PDT**, no completion report at writing time — **unverified**.

Excerpt: The 240-minute lease regime survived exactly one watch before a second friendly fire — my main chat's manual task launches were invisible to the watchdog-only fix. Answer: no.
